Is Misalignment Of Your Neck Causing Your Headaches, Sinuses Or Difficulty Sleeping?

Today we are going to discuss how different parts of your body can be affected by the nerves in correlation with your spine; in other words, confirming if a spinal misalignment (vertebral subluxation) is the cause of any discomfort or symptoms that you’re experiencing.

Whether it be sinus trouble or a sore throat, it’s always important to check if the underlying cause of your symptoms is due to a spinal misalignment (Subluxation). In this series we’re going to go over each specific area of the spine and how it can affect you due to misalignment. There’s typically 5 areas of concern: Cervical Spine, Thoracic Spine, Lumbar Spine, Sacrum, and Coccyx; this week we’re going to cover the areas affected by the Cervical Spine.

There’s 7 vertebrae in your Cervical Spine (also known as the neck region):

C1 The nerves this vertebrae affect are the pituitary gland, brain, scalp, facial bones, inner and middle ear, down the arms, heart and the parasympathetic nervous system. This could present itself as headaches, neck pain, anxiety, sleep troubles, high blood pressure, a general feeling of discomfort/illness, or dizziness.

C2 – The areas this vertebrae affect are the eyes, optic and auditory nerves, sinuses, tongue, and mastoid bones. This could present itself as sinus troubles, allergies, visual problems, deafness, earaches, or fainting spells.

C3 – The areas this vertebrae affect are the cheeks, outer ear, face bones, and teeth. This could present itself as neuralgia (stabbing or burning pain), neuritis (pinched nerve), and skin eruptions like eczema.

C4 – The areas this vertebrae affect are the nose, lips, mouth, and Eustachian tube. This could present itself as hay fever (An allergic response causing itchy, watery eyes, sneezing, etc.), inflammation of membranes, adenoids (patch of tissue high in the throat behind the nose), and hearing loss.

C5 – The areas this vertebrae effects are your vocal cords, neck glands, and the pharynx. This could present itself as laryngitis, hoarseness in your voice, or throat conditions like a general sore throat or tonsillitis.

C6 – The areas this vertebrae effects are the muscles in your neck, shoulders, and tonsils. This could present itself as a stiff neck, pain in the upper arm, whooping cough, or croup (infection of the upper airway obstructing breathing and causing a characteristic barking cough).

C7The areas this vertebrae effects are your thyroid gland, bursae in the shoulders, and elbows. This could present itself as Bursitis (fluid filled sac common around the shoulder, elbow, hip, or knee to aid in movement), a cold, or thyroid conditions.
