While the holidays are a joyous time overall for everyone, we still tend to feel overwhelmed with the balancing act of getting ready for holiday’s on top of our already busy schedule. Somehow, we make it work every year, but it can be a headache if we don’t take a step back and just breathe; we deserve to enjoy ourselves! You may be thinking, “Yeah, I’ve definitely woken up with a bad headache before and recently.” but do you know what kind of headache it is and the other different types?
There are two different sectors of headaches, and this week we’re going to focus on the primary types of headaches.
Primary headaches include the following:
- Tension headaches are often triggered by stress and can leave you with a dim, aching feeling all over your head. It is also common to have tenderness or sensitivity on your neck and shoulder muscles.
- Cluster headaches are known to have a severe burning or piercing pain and typically happen around behind one of our eyes or sides of our face at a time. These types of headaches occur for a certain amount of time, ranging anywhere from 15 minutes to 3 hours, and usually happen around the same time each day, multiple times a day, in their respective cluster.
- Migraines are a strong pulsating feeling from deep within your head that have been known to last for days. Typically, a migraine causes a throbbing pain and, more times than not, occurs on one side of your head. Intense migraines will typically make you sensitive to light and sound and can severely affect your ability to carry on in your day-to-day schedule; patients have also reported nausea and vomiting following a migraine episode they are having.
I don’t know about you, but none of these sound fun to me or like something I would want to be experiencing during the holiday season, let alone at all!
