Chiropractic and Massage

We all know that massages are relaxing and generally feel good to the body (if not, it’s about time you give it a try yourself!) but did you know that massage therapy actually has a plethora of benefits to the body? And, that massage therapy and chiropractic care go hand in hand? We offer massage therapy to our patients because it feels good but there are proven benefits from combining the two treatments with each other. Many chiropractic offices offer both services because they go so well with each other.

Combining Adjustments and Massages

A chiropractic adjustment works to realign the spine through slight pressure and force by a highly trained doctor. When the spine is misaligned, pain and inflammation occur reducing mobility and overall function of the joints, nervous system, and body.

A massage works to relieve tightness caused by muscles and tendons stiffening by a trained massage therapist. When getting a massage, the tendons and muscles are kneaded and worked out to release the pain, tension, and inflammation in the body.

Did you also know that the body receives messages through the nervous system which is primarily conducted through the spinal cord? What does this mean for you? This means that when the body and areas around the spinal cord are inflamed, signals can’t properly move through the body which will results in less function such as movement, balance, and brain body connection.

Combining chiropractic care and massage allows for the body allows for the pressure built up in the spine to be reduced and the tensions built up in the muscles and surrounding tissues to be released. This will allow for better communication between the mind and body to serve for better functionality.

How You’ll Feel

When you combine the treatments, you will likely feel an increase in flexibility, greater range of motion, better time focusing and relaxing, improved immune function, increased energy, better blood flow, and greater overall quality of life. You’ll likely feel better after getting a massage and an adjustment because each aid in the other. For example, when you get a massage, the soft tissue will be looser making it gentler on the spine when getting adjusted and vice versa. When getting adjusted, the body is less tight making massage feel more relaxed than intense.  You will probably feel an increase in memory and physical function but you should also feel pain relief lasting longer because massage therapy loosens the muscles and tendons.

Combining chiropractic and massage is a great way to reduce pain and inflammation in the body and improve overall bodily function. Combining the two therapies will help current pain and help reduce the onset of future pain. Here at Orlando City Health and Wellness, we offer both therapies to help you feel better and live better.
